I don’t usually have dreams that are vivid enough to remember after I wake up, but I had an exceptionally detailed one last night that I keep finding myself thinking about even hours later today.
It starts off with me walking into this large building that looks kind of like an upscale mall, but it’s more officey on the inside. It’s got multiple levels and it’s all very open, with big skylights in the roof. The interior is orangey-pink marble with a lot of gold accents on railings and light fixtures and so on, so everything has this kind of orange tint to it which seems odd for the middle of the day.
So I’m entering this building, and I’m not really sure why I want to do this or what I’m going to do when I get there, but I don’t get very far before an alarm goes off and a bunch of guards are following me. For some reason their leader has the voice of Azula from Avatar and she’s really annoying, but I’m just walking along at a brisk pace and pretending that nothing’s wrong and no one is after me.
Of course, somehow, I wind up getting caught by them, and it becomes sort of muddled for a little bit here. I remember being in some kind of interrogation room for a while, and then doing various things to cleverly escape the guards and talk them into letting me leave. So I get out. (Somehow.)
Somehow I meet up with this grandfatherly old guy who takes me back to his house in the “safe” part of town which is pretty suburbian although old and 40s-50s looking, where we have a cup of tea and he explains to me that I can’t just walk into buildings because there’s a chip implanted in my head above my right eye which gets picked up by scanners in any large public buildings or areas. As long as my right eye is open. I’m not sure if this is just something for apparent fugitives or if everyone in this world has a chip, but I don’t believe the guy, so he points me to a mirror. Sure enough, right about at the hairline above my right eyebrow there’s a little squarish bump. I ask about cutting the thing out, but he explains that it contains some kind of neurotoxin so it can’t be removed without causing paralysis. So in order to counteract the scanning thing, I start wearing an eyepatch.
I start living in the guy’s basement, because he’s been shepherding people like me to safety for most of his life (or so I gather) so it’s set up like a little house, but it’s hidden pretty well and hard to get into. He has an old fluffy white rabbit that lives in the basement, and looks like it’s on the verge of death at any moment because its fur is falling out in huge patches and it’s very scabby and worn looking, but still loveable and friendly.
Also in the basement there’s a manhole hidden in part of the floor, which leads down a long way to a cave or a tunnel which eventually leads to the sea. I spend a lot of time working on building and supplying a small boat, which I guess is eventually going to be my escape from this place.
Eventually, we realize that there are scouts in the neighborhood looking for me and setting up hidden scanners, so I have to start wearing the eyepatch here, too. We start speeding up preparations for the boat, but the hard part becomes going to town to get supplies. There are a few close calls where someone recognizes me, but I manage to get away.
The scouts start getting closer and closer to the house and then. I woke up. *A*
